About the Movement & Dance Studio

Jane Perkins-Huyck

Jane Perkins-HuyckI have thoroughly enjoyed a full career in Dance — teaching, choreographing, performing and creating new classes in many wonderful schools since 1976.

In April 2000, I established the Movement & Dance studio for the purpose of developing and teaching medically endorsed wellness and movement programs.

In addition to these programs, I continue to teach adult and children's dance classes and workshops and have established "The Spirit Filled Choreography Workshop." In 1976, I developed and continue to teach "The Magic Garden Children's Class" a pre-ballet class, inspired by the songs written by my late brother, Dr. George N. Kayatta, for the children's TV series "The Magic Garden." My children and grandchildren have been a continuous source of inspiration and creativity for me as well!

As an adjunct Dance faculty member, my career includes Munson-Williams Proctor Art Institute, MVCC, YWCA, Emma Willard School, Ballet Regent, NYSSSA, Malta Ballet School, Albany Dance Institute, Saratoga City Ballet and other Art and Dance centers in NYS, and invited as a guest semester teacher at Skidmore College and at the Belles Artes in San Miguel, Mexico. I have taught several years of wellness programs for Saratoga Continuing Ed and at the National Museum of Dance.

I have trained and performed under the direction of many principal artists including Kathryn Lee, Mikhail Korogodsky, Sandra Balestracci, John Parks, Luigi, JoJo Smith, Jeanne Bresciani (Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, Kirov, NY Opera, Alvin Ailey, Isadora Duncan Foundation, respectively).

I hold a Bachelor of Professional Studies, Performing Arts, from SUNY Empire State College. Through my quest to share wellness, I've received national teaching certifications from the National Arthritis Foundation for P.A.C.E. and Tai Chi for Arthritis, training with Dr. Paul Lam, Tai Chi Gold Medalist and Master Teacher, the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, the American Council on Exercise, the Exercise Safety Association, and The Lebed Method for breast cancer survivors.
